Carter Doesn't Disappoint
When former president and superdelegate Jimmy Carter came close to endorsing Barack Obama last week, I posted an item suggesting that a Carter endorsement might actually be a mixed blessing for the Obama campaign. Now with Carter’s announcement that he will personally meet with representatives from Hamas in Syria next week, despite the Bush Administration’s opposition to the meeting, the Obama campaign has been forced to issue a statement reiterating its own opposition to the visit. While Carter's actions are certainly not the responsibility of the Obama campaign, it is precisely these sorts of episodes by supporters that can cause peripheral headaches for a presidential campaign.
